Tram depot
Bern, Switzerland
- Hochparterre: Goldener Hase (2011)

The Bolligenstraße tram depot in Bern is a modern storage facility for 28 trams with a maximum length of 42 metres each. The 200-metre-long hall contains 3,500 metres of track with 34 points and crossings. The roof of the strip-shaped hall is supported by a shed roof structure made of steel trusses with spans of up to 100 metres.
A striking feature of the tram depot is its large glass façade made of low-iron LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass. The red signals and trains shimmer through the translucent glass, whose surface gives the building an attractive appearance. The large-scale glazing in the truss levels of the beams and in the façades ensures ideal lighting conditions. It also allows the hall to be operated without heating. To prevent overheating in summer, the flaps of the smoke and heat extraction systems in the lower façade area and in the shed roof can be opened.
When planning the depot, emphasis was placed on durable and recyclable materials. Large areas are made of wood and are therefore climate-friendly. LINIT®EcoGlass profile glass is produced in an environmentally sustainable manner and is 100 percent recyclable.
