La Coruña Center For The Arts
La Coruña, Spain
- Premio de Arquitectura Joven (2007)

The art centre in La Coruña combines two different functions – a dance school and a museum – in a single architectural volume. This spatial fusion allows for an intense interplay between concrete, steel and glass, creating a clear separation between the inner, solid structures of the school and the open, light-flooded space of the museum. The concrete structures of the dance school are compact and functionally organised, while the museum wraps itself around these cores like a permeable shell. The architecture thrives on contrasts: massiveness meets lightness, closedness meets transparency.
In this interplay, the glass façade plays a central design and functional role. The outer shell of the museum consists of LAMBERTS prismasolar ornamental glass, which was specifically selected to diffuse light and create reflections. Its fragmenting effect prevents unwanted views from the outside while creating a lively play of light and shadow inside. The glass panes are installed at varying angles so that light is refracted differently and the exterior appearance of the building is constantly changing.
