Eichendorffschule sports hall
Lörrach, Germany
- BDA Hochrhein: Hugo-Häring-Auszeichnung (2005)

The sports hall at Eichendorffschule in Lörrach impresses with its clear, closed structure made of precast concrete elements, which is completely clad with through-coloured fibre cement panels. The horizontally aligned panels were riveted to an aluminium substructure. The curtain-type, rear-ventilated façade on profiled glass plays a central role in moisture regulation: the rear ventilation space between the thermal insulation and the cladding reliably dissipates moisture from the building and its occupants, thus ensuring the building's long service life.
The well thought-out façade concept is consistently carried over into the interior. In keeping with the façade, the walls, including the recessed entrance area and the impact walls, were also seamlessly clad with large-format wood-cement panels – without any offset and with clear lines. The gymnasium was inaugurated in 2005, and the building underwent extensive renovation in 2021.
