The National Technical Library in Prague is the first building in the world to feature profiled glass with perforations and flush-mounted point fixings on the façade. The environmentally friendly LAMBERTS LINIT®Ecoglass “solar” profiles with their silky gloss finish emphasise the building's unique design.
The monumental eight-storey building in the shape of a rounded square is 21 metres high and measures 70 by 70 metres. Visitors can see its dimensions from afar, as white lines and large numbers indicating the measurements are affixed to the elegant glass façade.
The media centre near Prague Castle is the most comprehensive library of technical literature in the Czech Republic, with a collection of more than one million works, and offers 1,300 study places and 500 quiet areas. The floors are divided by a rectangular atrium that allows plenty of light to reach the lowest floor.
After around two years of construction, the building was completed in 2009. The construction costs amounted to a good 92 million euros. The building has received numerous awards in the Czech Republic.
