Opened in 2009, Centar Zamet is a multi-award-winning, multi-functional centre in Zamet, a district of the Croatian port city of Rijeka. The building complex includes a convertible handball hall with a capacity of 2,380 seats, a municipal administration building with a multi-purpose hall, a shopping centre, service and catering facilities, a library and an underground car park.
The conceptual and design element common to both the sports hall and the Zamet Centre are the north-south building strips. They are modelled on the walls stacked with stones and boulders that characterise the hillsides in many parts of Croatia. The buildings and squares are clad or paved with more than 50,000 ceramic tiles. Their colours are intended to be reminiscent of Croatian rock formations.
The steel structure, with spans of 55 metres and varying heights, allows natural light to flood into the halls. Their glass façades consist of partially coated LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass profiled glass with a solar surface. The silky surface structure of this U-glass enables ideal energy gains and also emphasises the characteristic appearance of the building complex.
