Théâtre de Liège
Liège, Belgium
- Urban planning award - Liege (2013)
- Bigmat International Architecture Award: Finalist (2015)

The Théâtre de Liège in Liège is a successful example of the fusion of historical architecture and modern design. The renovation, completed in 2013, was carried out by architects Pierre Hebbelinck and Pierre de Wit and transformed the listed building of the Société Libre d'Emulation into a modern theatre. The architects preserved the charm of the old neoclassical building with its columns and gilding and integrated modern theatre technology.
The façades were fitted with LAMBERTS EcoGlass ornamental glass, whose “prismasolar” surface has a striking vertical striped structure and creates an aesthetic contrast between old and new. This glass, which was used in the façades of the stage tower and the large bay window, combines opacity and semi-transparency to create a balance between light transmission and privacy. The glass was processed into laminated safety glass and meets both aesthetic and safety requirements.
The ornamental glass contributes significantly to the overall effect of the building, as it preserves its historical charm and gives the modern extensions a contemporary identity.
