The Children's Hospital in San Antonio impresses with its vibrant and striking architecture, which successfully combines art and the surrounding environment. The façade of the building features purple, orange and blue colours – a direct reference to the neighbouring nine-storey mural Spirit of Healing by artist Jesse Treviño. This bold colour scheme gives the hospital a warm, welcoming feel – an important design element for a building dedicated to treating children.
A special architectural highlight are the coloured profiled glass channels that envelop the building. They are not only visually striking, but also functional – equipped with LED lighting, they transform the façade at night into a luminous play of light reminiscent of festive Christmas illuminations, giving the building an almost fairy-tale effect. During the day, specially manufactured, visually dynamic composite panels create a modern, changeable appearance that varies depending on the incidence of light.
The successful combination of colourful design, artistic references and innovative technology makes the Children's Hospital an architectural landmark in San Antonio – a place that radiates hope, healing and joie de vivre.
