Swiss Museum of Transport
Lucerne, Switzerland

The most visited museum in Switzerland showcases the history of mobility on the road, on rails, on water, in the air and in space. The Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne has a large collection of vehicles of all kinds and houses a planetarium, the ‘Swiss Chocolate Adventure’ themed world and a cinema with the largest permanently installed screen in Switzerland. Opened in 1959, a hall for road transport and a new entrance building, known as FutureCom, were added in 2009.
The translucent glass façade of FutureCom catches the eye at first glance. It is made of LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass “clarissimo” profiled glass, which provides weather protection and acts as a kind of oversized display case. Behind it, numerous car rims and wheel variants hang close together on grates in front of the building insulation, paying homage to mechanised movement. The more than 5,000 rims were purchased from scrap dealers throughout Switzerland, while individual large propellers, spokes and gear wheels come from the museum's own collection.
