Sussan Headquarters

- Australian Institute of Architects: National Award for Commercial Architecture (2009)

Sussan is an Australian women's fashion retailer that also owns Sportsgirl and Suzanne Grae. The Sussan Sportsgirl companies' headquarters in a Sydney suburb employs 160 people. It houses offices, meeting rooms, a dining room and a private art gallery.
The business owner wanted a place for her corporate family, her art collection and her love of gardens. She wanted a building where people would feel comfortable and be able to work in an atmosphere of light, openness, views, art and gardens.
Originally, the complex consisted of three different warehouse buildings. These were redesigned and combined to create a two-part building with a birch grove planted in the middle. All workplaces have a view to the outside, and many also look out onto the central courtyard.
The façade was clad in translucent LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass “solar” to meet the desire for light and openness. The interior spaces are illuminated by shimmering white, diffused daylight. The elegant U-glass façade has effectively wrapped the old existing buildings in a stylish new coat, transforming them into modern architecture.
