Stary Browar is a modern shopping and cultural centre in Poznań, a city in western Poland. It is located in a former large brewery building, which was built in 1876 and used until 1980. Every year, nine million people visit the 200 shops, numerous restaurants, events and art and design exhibitions. Stary Browar (‘Old Brewery’) was opened in 2003 and expanded between 2005 and 2007.
The new part of the complex consists of a shopping centre with an indoor atrium. The shape of the old brewery buildings was taken as the starting point for the new design. It combines the functional industrial architecture of the 19th century with contemporary design.
The glass façade, which is divided by multi-storey horizontal bands, is a collaboration between the award-winning architectural studio ADS and Polish artist Adam Garnek. At night, it glows with a shimmering light thanks to an artistic light installation inside. The two glass towers on the west façade are visible from afar as distinctive landmarks. The towers and façade are clad with LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass profile glass in three different widths, which have been installed alternately.
