SQUADRA Abarth & Rally Collection
Lier, Belgium

Since the 1970s, Guy Moerenhout has been collecting and restoring cars that are in some way connected to the legendary car manufacturer Carlo Abarth. This hobby led to the creation of the Abarth Works Museum, whose collection now comprises more than three hundred special vehicles. It is a passion project that brings together lovers of classic cars, Italian design and rallying. The focus of the collection is on Abarth's work, but brands such as Fiat, Simca, Saab, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Lada and Porsche are also represented. As the collection continues to grow and the existing building is bursting at the seams, a new museum has been planned. AIDarchitecten was awarded the contract.
A walk through eleven levels around a central interior space takes visitors through many years of automotive history. While the classic cars are bathed in natural light through a translucent façade made of LINIT®EcoGlas, strategically placed bay windows made of clear glass arouse the curiosity of passers-by. Among the 175 cars permanently on display in an exhibition area covering over 5,000 m², are some of the most legendary vehicles in rally history. In addition to the exhibition, there is also a library and a museum café. From the museum, visitors have a view of the workshop where classic cars are repaired and restored and where enthusiasts can work on their own classic cars.
