Naturvidenskabernes Hus
Bjerringbro, Denmark
World Architecture Community Awards 2007

The House of Natural Sciences (Naturvidenskabernes Hus) is a privately run, non-profit knowledge centre. The organisation aims to inspire more young people to pursue education in the natural sciences and technology and to promote cooperation between schools and businesses. It is a cylindrical building on the outskirts of Bjerringbro in Denmark.
Its appearance is characterised by a striking glass façade, interrupted by transparent windows and two crescent-shaped cut-outs for the entrance area and the roof terrace. The translucent building envelope made of environmentally friendly LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass changes the character of the building depending on the incidence of daylight and creates a beacon visible from afar at night.
Inside the building, all installations have been left completely exposed so that students can learn about the various elements that make up a building. For example, the ceilings are made of expanded metal, which allows the fire protection, acoustic, electrical and IT installations behind them to shine through.
