Mercado Barceló
Madrid, Spain

The Mercado Municipal de Barceló multi-purpose centre is surrounded by historic and contemporary buildings, narrow streets and squares on the edge of Madrid's historic city centre. It takes its name from its location on Barceló Street, which was named after the navigator Antoni Barceló, born in Mallorca in 1717.
The complex consists of the eponymous shopping centre, which houses around 100 shops, a sports hall and a public library. The sports centre rises above the roof of the market, where visitors can enjoy views of the rooftops of Madrid from the terrace. A public square, designed as a small pedestrian zone, connects the market to the free-standing library building next door.
The façade, made of low-iron, colour-enamelled LAMBERTS LINIT® EcoGlass profiles, unifies the external appearance of all buildings and gives the complex a sense of lightness and unity. The “solar” surface of the environmentally friendly profile glass emphasises the aesthetics of the building complex with its elegant appearance.
