La maison de santé Simone Veil
Cesson, France

Text description provided by the architects. The Simone Veil Health Centre is located on a 900 m² industrial site in the town centre. The building was constructed in the 1970s and has retained the rational design of its concrete columns and beams from that period. The space benefits from beautiful natural lighting through 16 skylights and high ceilings. The project involves the creation of 20 doctors' surgeries divided into two areas, as well as a reception and training centre.
A large meeting room for 30 people and a cosy, functional kitchen form the hub of communication and life in the facility. To this end, the building was completely gutted in order to realise this ambitious programme. The communal, technical and archive rooms are located in an extension on the terrace. The interior spaces are designed according to a clear functional scheme, with opposing glass skylights allowing daylight to flood into the various practices. The interior design emphasises user-friendliness, natural lighting and the quality of the rooms while retaining the existing high ceilings.
The façades were completely removed and walls with large window openings were created. The ensemble is enveloped in translucent profiled glass, which gives the future facility a fresh and new look. The use of profiled glass on the façade refers to the function of the building and creates a delicate opalescent pattern that reflects the interior cladding. This glass skin gives the building in the heart of the city a fleeting silhouette and makes it visible from afar.
