Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art
Helsinki, Finland
- 1998 National AIA Design Award

The Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art is a major architectural destination in the centre of Helsinki, Finnland. The beautiful building is a masterpiece designed by Steven Holl Architects with Juhanni Pallasmaa as local architect.
Light is an important element in this fantastic building. Steven Holl was fascinated by Finnish natural light, which changes with the seasons and time of day. The surfaces and forms of the museum are designed with light in mind, and the building’s character is altered with the shifting light conditions. The interior lighting also reflects changes in natural light.
Kiasma has 3,500 square metres of window surface. The large, curved wall facing Mannerheimintie and the partition at the front entrance are made of LAMBERTS LINIT EcoGlass. To date, the museum has welcomed around 6 million visitors.
