- 6th Kashiwa Cityscape Award: Grand Award

The Kashiwa Shopping Centre is located at the west exit of the railway station in the Japanese city of Kashiwa. It contains 185 specialist shops and the Kashiwa Takshimaya department store, which belongs to a large department store chain. It attracts 25 million visitors every year.
Between 2006 and 2008, the station façade was renovated, a new twelve-storey shopping centre was built and the two buildings were connected by bridges on the fourth and seventh floors. The exterior wall was framed with LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass profiles. This allowed the architects to eliminate the oppressive feeling that had previously prevailed in the square.
The translucent glass façade conveys a sense of lightness and modernity. At night, spotlights set behind the glass illuminate the façade, brightening up the station square and enhancing its appearance. The construction work was honoured with the Kashiwa Cityscape Grand Award.
