Institute for Dental Aesthetics SEDA
Jaén, Spain
Provincial Architecture Award “Andrés de Vandelvira”, 11th edition, in the categories of small-scale architecture and interior design

The SEDA Dental Aesthetics Institute in Jaén, located in the north-east of the Spanish region of Andalusia, translates functional and technical requirements into a clear architectural vision: precision, professionalism and tranquillity are reflected in the materials, lighting and spatial layout.
The external cladding of laminated glass defines the building. Extending over the entire height, the translucent laminated glass creates a homogeneous, tranquil façade, interrupted only by the entrance. A 4.5-metre-high steel door with an integrated oculus allows a focused view without disrupting the sense of enclosure. LINIT©EcoGlass acts as a light-modulating layer, diffusing daylight into the interior and creating an even, glare-free atmosphere.
A second cladding of natural timber structures the floor plan as a continuous, precisely joined volume. Openings are integrated into the surface as precisely placed cuts and designed as flush doors. Behind them lie thoughtfully structured treatment rooms and functional areas.
Using a minimalist palette of materials comprising glass, wood and ceramics, combined with carefully controlled lighting, the architectural practice estudio TOLEDANO-GUTIERREZ has created a design that harmonises tranquillity, clarity and functionality.
