IHK Media Center
Würzburg, Germany

The Media Centre of the Würzburg-Schweinfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce is a multimedia training centre in Würzburg that was inaugurated in 2003. Covering an area of 1,155 square metres, it offers training participants 112 computer training places equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
The challenge in planning the building was the cramped site between an underground car park and its exit. The spatial supporting structure of the five-storey building was therefore anchored against tilting using reinforced concrete tension piles in the building ground.
The media centre has a trapezoidal floor plan measuring 20 x 16 metres and cantilevers far out over the underground car park. The centrepiece of the complex is a covered inner courtyard with three striking funnel-shaped umbrellas covered with a film that is only 1.5 millimetres thick.
Except for the entrance area, the building façade is completely clad with LAMBERTS LINIT®Ecoglass 504 with azure coating and is interrupted by a large transparent window that runs through the upper four floors. The pearl structure of the glass ensures excellent lighting conditions in the rooms and makes for a pleasant working environment.
