Hospital Universitario de Cuenca
Cuenca, Spain

The Nuevo Hospital Universitario de Cuenca in Cuenca, a city in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha in Spain, is a large-scale healthcare facility that serves as the region’s central healthcare hub. The project was carried out between 2008 and 2025. The hospital’s architecture combines functional efficiency with clearly structured spatial layouts, thereby meeting the requirements of a modern clinical facility.
A sprawling building complex was constructed on a site covering around 189,000 m² with a built-up area of over 98,000 m². The facility is designed so that different functional areas – from diagnostics and treatment to inpatient care – are logically arranged and optimally interconnected. This enables short distances, clear wayfinding and efficient internal logistics.
The architectural structure follows a modular principle that allows for flexibility and future adaptations. Spacious circulation areas, well-lit interior spaces and a differentiated organisation of the wards contribute to the quality of stay for patients and staff. At the same time, the functional layout of the building ensures that highly specialised areas such as operating theatres, intensive care units and diagnostic rooms are precisely integrated into the overall structure.
