Evonik Degussa Science to Business Center
Marl, Germany

The Science-to-Business Centre, owned by Degussa AG, is located in the Marl Chemical Park, one of the largest industrial parks in Germany. Since early 2007, experts have been conducting research there on topics related to white biotechnology with the aim of developing new biotechnological processes and products for the future. Universities, industry and customers work together on research and development in an interdisciplinary manner.
The building consists of two laboratory and office wings arranged at right angles, connected by a striking entrance area, the meeting point. This forms the intersection of the route structure and houses the meeting wing. The elliptical shape of the building contrasts with the rectangular parts of the building and, with its orange glass façade made of LAMBERTS LINIT® EcoGlass “colour”, is the visual hallmark of the Science to Business Centre.
The façade is interrupted by transparent glass windows, in front of which are U-profile glass panels attached like blinds, with the flange facing outwards. LINIT®EcoGlass is ideal for curved applications, as the relatively narrow glass planks are segmented in the frame and only the frame itself needs to be curved. The fine lines created by the meeting of the glass flanges visually extend the shape of the building and give it an additional sense of height.
