Comics Station
Antwerp, Belgium

Comics Station is an indoor theme and adventure park featuring popular Belgian comic characters, which opened its doors in spring 2017. The four-storey facility with an exhibition area of 6,000 square metres was built in Antwerp's historic main railway station. Up to 2,000 visitors at a time can discover the world of comic heroes such as Lucky Luke and the Smurfs.
The challenge for the architects was to design a translucent, elliptical structure that would catch the eye of the public. Large cavities were needed to provide sufficient light. As much of the project is located up to 20 metres below ground, it was necessary to allow as much daylight as possible to reach the lowest levels. The solution was found in low-iron LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass profile glass. Due to their low iron content, the glass panes have a high light transmission factor, refract the light and scatter it diffusely throughout the room.
