A car park with around 900 parking spaces has been built in the US coastal city of Santa Monica especially for visitors to public administration buildings. The most striking feature of the six-storey building is its unusual design. Its striking appearance makes it easily recognisable from a distance and serves as a landmark for the administrative centre. Colourful U-shaped glass profiles on the façade of the car park protect the interior from direct sunlight and are arranged in such a way that they allow wind to pass through, preventing the temperature inside from rising too much.
The differently coloured, colour-enamelled glass profiles are alternated with ribbed concrete slabs on the building. During the day, they adorn the car park with their varied appearance. At night, the illuminated façade becomes a colourful curtain of colour and light. The extravagant “prismasolar” surface structure, specially developed by LAMBERTS, was used. It serves both as seasonal shading and to direct light into the depths of the room.
The Civic Centre Parking was the first car park of its kind to receive a LEED-certified rating from the U.S. Green Building Council for the use of sustainable architecture in its design. LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass has been produced ecologically for years and is unique in the field of ‘construction and architectural glass’.
