Car park at the port
Wismar, Germany

The Altstadt-Hafen car park in Wismar blends harmoniously into the overall appearance of the harbour peninsula. The architects were tasked with creating a link between the brick Gothic architecture of the old town, the historic warehouse buildings of the harbour and the newly constructed brick buildings without concealing the functionality of the car park.
The result is a building whose rounded outer edges clearly distinguish it from the clean, cubic brick architecture. The sea-air-resistant façade, made of environmentally friendly, colour-enamelled LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass profiles, echoes the striking reddish-brown tones of the bricks with different shades of red. These are arranged in alternation with translucent profiled glass elements, which additionally illuminate the interior of the building.
Due to its location in the city centre with UNESCO World Heritage status, the new building had to meet high design requirements. In addition, the ground conditions in the immediate vicinity of the harbour basin required complex pile foundations. The car park has five levels with 211 parking spaces with a comfortable width of at least 2.60 metres.
