Canteen at school centre
Steinheim, Germany

The cafeteria at Erich Kästner Secondary School in Steinheim an der Murr features a diamond-shaped design with gently rounded corners. The dining hall can seat up to 170 people. The space can also be used flexibly for events. Depending on the angle from which it is viewed, the building's striking geometry gives it either a modest or very striking appearance.
The unusual façade consists of low-iron LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass profiled glass, which enabled the curves to be created in a cost-efficient manner. It is characterised by the fact that it allows plenty of daylight into the interior while preventing people from seeing in.
Additional thermal insulation is provided by translucent thermal insulation between the double-glazed glass elements. This reduces heat transfer while maximising daylight entry.
When dark, the cafeteria, illuminated from within, transforms into a glowing lantern that attracts visitors during events.
