Bahnhof Santiago de Compostela Railway Station - Daniel Castelao
Santiago de Compostela, Spain

The Santiago de Compostela “Daniel Castelao” railway station connects the historic center, the southern districts, and the Parque de las Brañas. The project, which involved a total investment of €53 million, includes a modern passenger building with direct access to the platforms and a pedestrian bridge. €41 million was spent on the construction of the terminal and €12 million on adapting it for high-speed services.
The new passenger building was constructed above the tracks and rests on the existing platforms. The steel structure was assembled in a complex operation using a 600-ton crane. With an area of around 5,300 square meters on five levels, the building follows a functional and efficient design and blends in with the existing infrastructure. The main lobby opens onto a new station forecourt covering more than 1,500 m², which overcomes the uneven terrain and creates a direct connection to Rúa Hórreo.
The renovation, expansion, and modernization work at Santiago station includes adapting the old station building for educational and technical purposes, as well as redesigning the parking lot with more parking spaces, a drop-off and pick-up area (Kiss&Ride), and an area for public transport in a completely barrier-free complex.
