Azusa Pacific University: Segerstrom Science Center
Azusa, USA

Azusa Pacific University is a private Christian university northeast of Los Angeles, California. Adjacent to its west campus is the 6,500-square-metre Segerstrom Science Centre. The scientific facility houses the departments of biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics, as well as medical research and teaching areas.
The building is organised around a triangular outdoor courtyard that provides the interior spaces with daylight. Its outer shell consists of multicoloured cement panels and panels made of matt LAMBERTS LINIT®EcoGlass. The north side is completely glazed with profiled glass, interrupted only by clear glass windows.
The innovative glass façade forms a modern contrast to the cement. It allows filtered daylight into the laboratories and study areas and emits diffused light at night. It also enabled the designers to sandblast the university's philosophical and theological approach onto the glass surfaces in the form of large-format graphics.
The environmentally friendly LINIT®EcoGlass contributed to the building being awarded the LEED® Gold sustainability certificate for ecological construction.
